Description	This ticket for membership in the Lorain County Historical Society was issued to Heman Ely II, who was the son of founder of the town of Elyria, Ohio. The ticket was issued in 1889, the year the society was founded, and includes a sketch of the East Falls in Elyria. It measures 8" x 5" (20.32 x 12.7 cm). The women in the Centennial Loan Association in Elyria celebrated Ohio's centennial of settlement by collecting Lorain County items for display at an Elyria store, the Lorain County Fair, and ultimately in Columbus, Ohio in 1888. Taking pride in the discoveries they had made concerning Lorain County, they decided to form a permanent organization, Lorain County Historical Society, in 1889 for the collection, preservation, and exhibition of artifacts and documents for future Lorain County residents and visitors.
