Description	This minute book documents the meetings of the Lorain County Historical Society in Elyria, Ohio, beginning January 26, 1889 and ending January 19,1893. Contained within the hand-written volume are minutes concerning the formation of society, subsequent monthly meetings, a list of first officers and sponsors, annual meeting reports, and accession notes. The volume, which measures 8.5" x 5.75" (21.6 x 14.61 cm), is approximately 115 pages. Selections are digitized here. The women in the Centennial Loan Association in Elyria celebrated Ohio's centennial of settlement by collecting Lorain County items for display at an Elyria store, the Lorain County Fair, and ultimately in Columbus, Ohio in 1888. Taking pride in the discoveries they had made concerning Lorain County, they decided to form a permanent organization, Lorain County Historical Society, in 1889 for the collection, preservation, and exhibition of artifacts and documents for future Lorain County residents and visitors.

Full Text	[corresponds to page 1 of Minutes of The Lorain County Historical Society] On Saturday Jan 26 1889 A meeting of the Centennial Loan Association was held at Mrs W E Miller's. The object of this meeting was the organization of an Historical Society. Ten ladies were present. Having appoint -ed Mrs Edwin Hall Chairman and Mrs. E L Hewitt Secretary pro tem - and the question shall we have an Historical Society being decided in the affirmative the following officers of the society were elected.
