Pomeroy, O., Febr. 13. 77.
Rt. Rev. & Dear Bishop,
Your kind letter of yesterday is at hand and
I think I should more express to you my ideas and
plans. From the very beginning that you ordained me
up to the present day all my doings have been directed
so far as you commissioned me to promote the glory of God
and the salvation of souls. Having before my eyes the
sight that so many boys, Catholic boys, were lost for our
holy Church for want of a Catholic education and there
being no place in this diocese where boys could find a home
I concluded to do my best I could to establish such a
home. With the help of God I have succeeded and can give
at least a small number of homeless boys a Catholic
education. I have received no help from outside, there
has been no collection, which amounts to anything,
and even non of the Brothers has yet been out begging
for this asylum. By my hard working day and night
the institution has come into existence and I have
supported it now nearly two years. What I hold in
my possession on real estate and otherwise including
the paper I can fairly estimate having $10,000 value,
