Description	These three photographs show Lieutenant Governor John W. Brown, a Republican, with Burma and several other elephants in the Mills Brothers Circus. The elephant is the Republican Party's mascot. The photographs are 8" x 10" (20.32 x 25.4 cm). John W. Brown (b. 1913) was born in Athens, Ohio. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1931 and from 1941 to 1945 he served in both the Ohio Highway Patrol and the U. S. Coast Guard. From 1950 to 1953 he served as mayor of Medina, Ohio, where he oversaw Medina's transition from village to city status. Brown was lieutenant governor from 1953 to 1957 and again from 1962 to 1975. From 1959 to 1960, he served in the Ohio House of Representatives, and from 1961 to 1962 in the Ohio Senate.
