TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME GREETING:)
KNOW YE, That in consideration of Military Service performed by John Yancy [underlined]
A Regimental quarter master for the years ranking as a Lieutenant
to the United States on the Virginia Line on Continental Establishment, and in pursuance of an Act
of the Congress of the United States passed on the 10th day of August , in the year 1790, intitled "An Act
to enable the Officers and Soldiers of the Virginia Line on Continental Establishment, to obtain Titles
to certain lands lying north west of the river Ohio, between the Little Miami and Sciota;" and other Acts of the
said Congress, amendatory of the said Act. There is granted by the United States unto Benjamin Bowman
Assignee of Henry Massie, assignee of the said John Yancy
a certain Tract of Land containing Fifty Acres
situate between the Little Miami and Sciota rivers, north west of the river Ohio, by survey,
bearing date the fourth day of October in the year one thousand eight hundred and seventeen
and bounded and described as follows, to wit Survey on fifty acres of land on part for
military warrant No. 5989 (the whole the [illegible because of stain] being for two thousand six hundred
& Sixty six and two thirds acres in favor of the said John Yancy: On Island
Creek, a branch of the Ohio beginning at two elms and a hickory on the east
bank of the creek at the upper end of the first bottom below Bowmans mill;
thence West fifty poles to three sugar trees; thence North nine degrees East eighty
one poles to three buckeyes; thence East one hundred & eighteen poles crossing the
creek at twelve poles to a beech, elm and hackberry; thence South twenty two
west seventy six poles to two elms; thence West forty six poles to a stake;
thence South twenty two degrees West ten poles to the beginning
with the Appurtenances: To have and to hold the said Tract of Land, with the Appurtenances unto the said
Benjamin Bowman [underlined space] and his heirs and assigns forever.
In Witness whereof, the said JAMES MONROE, President of the United States
of America, hath caused the Seal of the GENERAL LAND OFFICE to be hereunto affixed, and signed the same with his hand
