Description	These two photographs of Arthur Trory are self-portraits. First is a 4" x 5" (10.16 x 12.7 cm) photograph of Trory with a camera. The second 12" x 9" (30.48 x 22.86 cm) photograph shows Trory in a tree. The final 4" x 5" (10.16 x 12.7 cm) photograph shows Trory behind the counter at a drug store. Arthur Trory (1879-1967) was born in Lyons, Ohio, the youngest of four children of English immigrants. He attended grammar school in Wauseon, Ohio and later studied pharmacy at Ohio Northern University. He worked as a pharmacist in Ashland, Medina, and Cleveland before moving to Kent. Trory retired from business in 1949. These photographs are part of the Arthur Trory Collection at Kent State University. Trory was an avid photographer who received his first camera at the age of ten. His photographs depict the Kent and Brady Lake area from 1895 to 1927, including the Kent Opera House, Brady Lake icehouse, factories, bridges and street scenes. Although an amateur, Trory's works are notable for their artistry and unique composition.
