Description	Sergeant Jennings A. Hida, a native of Piqua, Ohio, wrote these two letters to the editors of the Hometown Bugle, a World War II publication. Hida was serving in the South Pacific and wrote about his experiences there. He encouraged the people back home in Piqua to continue publishing the Bugle. The letters are one page each and measure 8.5" x 11" (21.59 x 27.94 cm). Hida included two photographs of himself with the letters. The first, measuring 3.25" x 4.5" (8.26 x 11.43 cm) shows him standing in front of a large palm tree. The second, taken July 15, 1943 "on an island in the South Pacific" measures 2.5" x 3.5" (6.35 x 8.89 cm). Two Piqua organizations, the YMCA and the Philo Club, combined their efforts to produce the Hometown Bugle during World War II. The newspaper was a condensed version of Piqua news from home as well as items from Piquads serving abroad during World War II. The Hometown Bugle was sent to Piqua natives serving abroad. Circulation eventually exceeded 600.
