Description	These two 8" x 10" (20.32 by 25.40 cm) photographs document Jackson Center baseball teams in 1900 and 1902. The players are identified on the back of the 1900 photograph as: John B[illegible], Ed Amber, Ralph Hess, Cecil Hoover, Bill Hillus, Lafe Armstrong, Herman Rogers, Harry Clayton, Vic Calhoun, Frank Buirley, Ed Bland, and Frank Glick. Members of the 1902 team are identified as: Leslie Armstrong, Loyd Wilson, Frank Baughman, Lon Rheinhardt, Edd Bland, Frank Buirley, Frank Glick, Roy Anderson (Manager), Harry Hill, Fred Wildermuth, Cecil Hoover, George DeWeese, and Roy Blue. The game of baseball began in New York, New York in the 1840s and 1850s. During the Civil War, Union soldiers introduced the game to other soldiers from remote regions of the country. When the war ended, baseball clubs grew across the U.S. The National League of Professional Baseball formed in 1876 to formalize professional baseball, but amateur baseball remained popular. By the end of the nineteenth century, many small towns in Ohio had formed their own baseball teams.
