Description	As part of the celebration of 100 years of golf in America, a panel of distinguished sportswriters selected Jack Nicklaus as Golfer of the Century, 1888-1988. The award was this bronze statue of Nicklaus, sculpted by British artist Leicester Thomas. It measures 72" x 32" (182.88 x 81.28 cm). Nicklaus received the honor at a gala dinner in New York attended by such golf greats as Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, and Patty Berg. Jack William Nicklaus was born in Columbus, Ohio on January 21, 1940. Nicklaus amassed an amazing array of achievements in his career, among which are 20 major championship wins and 100 professional victories worldwide. Nicklaus holds the record for Masters wins (6), and shares the record for PGA championships (5) and U.S. Open titles (4). Nicknamed the "Golden Bear" Nicklaus was known on the course for his intense focus, powerful drives and uncommon sportsmanship. He also became a renowned golf course designer.
