EDITOR'S NOTE • • . ,-
This is the first of a series of news¬ letters which will be sent to you and other Ashland County Republicans between now and the November election. We believe that you, as a Republican in Ashland County, will be interest¬ ed in what is being done in your Party and in knowing more about your candidates. Because of this your Ashland County Executive Commit¬ tee has decided to send you copies of this newsletter. We plan to describe the activities of your party, to further acquaint you with your candidates and to present the facts on a number of issues which will be of concern to residents of Ashland County. If you have any news items or comments, please let us know.
Sincerely,
Bill Van Tilburg, Editor
FORMER EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN IS HONORED BY PARTY
At the meeting of the county chairmen in Col- •umbus last month. State Chairman Ray C. Bliss was greeted with loud applause when he paid tribute to the more than 30 years of service Milton Scarbor¬ ough has given to the Republican Party. Without first naming the former Ashland County Executive Committee Chairman, Chairman Bliss praised the many fine qualities which he said were necessary for a man to gain the successes of a county chairman.
When Mr„ Scarborough first assumed the chair¬ manship of the Republican Executive Committee, Ash¬ land County had no more than eight Republican pre¬ cincts, half of which were the four northern town¬ ships. By 1958, under Mr. Scarborough's direction, the situation had been reversed so that the county had 47 Republican precincts out of the total of 62.
While he has retired from the Chairmanship of the Executive Committee, Mr. Scarborough is con¬ tinuing to serve the Republican Party in the slightly less strenuous post of Vice Chairman. In his polit¬ ical duties, in his activities around the Court House and in his life at home in Nova, we, with Mr. Bliss, wish him wellI
