Title	Thomas W. Hare Civil War Letter from Libby Prison

Description	Thomas W. Hare wrote this letter to his sister Martha on February 7, 1864 while he was a prisoner of war at Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia. His letter is brief, since he was "allowed to write but 6 lines in any letter." He reports that his health is good and that he has heard of other soldiers at Danville Prison. Thomas W. Hare served as a first lieutenant in the 5th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry, Company A. He survived the war and returned to Clermont County in 1865. Two stamped envelopes addressed to Martha A. Hare of Mount Pisgah and to Morgan Dickinson of Nicholsville, both in Clermont County, Ohio are also included. The letter measures 8" x 5" (20.32 x 12.7 cm); the envelopes are 5" x 3.25" (12.7 x 8.26 cm) and 4" x 2" (10.16 x 5.08 cm).
