Description	The NCR NEWS first was printed in July of 1914 for employees of the National Cash Register Company. This issue is composed of 120 pages plus cover. The NCR NEWS monthly issues of that era are full of work and family-life articles, leisure stories, announcements of all sorts, and throughout many pictures of staff and families. The issues are printed on high quality, 6" by 8.75" (15.24 cm by 22.23 cm) paper. The complete issue is included in 124 images.This issue is the 5-year anniversary edition of the NCR NEWS. In this issue are articles on the NCR Relief Association and other employee "welfare" programs; there is a children's short story "A Mammoth Hunt", a gardening section (always a prominent subject in the NCR NEWS), the lyrics and score to a song, a short story "A Sweet-Voiced Thrush", a narrative on a Montana bear hunting trip by one of the employees, an automotive question and answer section, and a report on the NCR Women's Club with over two dozen pictures. There are several other stories, articles on health and world events, and common employee news items such as births, deaths, promotions, retirements, sports teams, safety programs, etc. In addition, there are several pieces discussing events surrounding NCR employees or family serving in World War I. Within there are hundreds of individual and group staff and family pictures. John H. Patterson founded the National Cash Register Company in Dayton, Ohio. Patterson (1844-1922), hoping the machines could save him money by reducing accounting errors in his supply business, purchased the patent rights to the cash register from James Ritty in 1884. Within six months, he reduced his debt and showed a profit. Patterson built the first National Cash Register factory on his family farm in Dayton in 1888. By the turn of the century, the company had become one of the largest employers in Dayton. Known for his strict training program for salespeople and health and education programs for employees, Patterson was closely involved in the daily lives of many of his employees.
