Description	This original color drawing by Billy Ireland appeared in the Columbus Dispatch on Sunday, November 14, 1920. Twelve sections of the full-page cartoon are reproduced here as separate images. In 1920, Ohioan Warren G. Harding was elected president, the Cleveland Indians won the World Series, and the Ohio State University Buckeyes played for the national football championship in Pasadena, California. One cartoon illustrates these accomplishments while another shows Marion, Ohio, personified as a lonely-looking woman on Harding's front porch. From 1906 until 1935, Ireland's "Passing Show" appeared every Sunday in the Dispatch. Chillicothe, Ohio native William A. "Billy" Ireland (1880-1935) joined the Dispatch staff in 1898, replacing cartoonist William Bucher. Ireland's cartoons were crowded with drawings and humorous commentary on people of local interest. Among other things, he promoted a new football stadium for Ohio State, endorsed downtown Columbus development, and advocated for women's suffrage. Ireland created his cartoons on large (28' x 22") sheets of drawing paper and never signed his name (using a shamrock as his symbol).
