Description	This petition to establish a new county out of the existing Williams and Paulding counties was created by residents of Auglaize Township in Paulding County. This four-page petition was never signed by residents of Auglaize Township. Although townships to the north and east of Auglaize Township became part of the new Defiance County on March 4, 1845, Auglaize Township remained in Paulding County. The petition measures 8" x 12.25" (20.32 x 31.12 cm).

Full Text	[map] To the Hon.Senate, and House of Representatives of Ohio, in general Assembly convened! We the undersigned Petitioners citizens of Auglaze Township towit: Town Three North Range Four East in Paulding county, Ohio, and without the Territory pro- posed for a New County would respectfully pray for the erection of a New County, to be called Defiance; the county seat to be at the Town of Defiance. Said New County to be bounded as follows towit: Commencing on the Indiana State Line where the Line between Towns Five and Six North
