Wednesday 22 nd [superscript] The weather this morning was cloudy and raw, 
but this afteroon clear and pleasantly warm, there is not much 
stirring of preculiar interest in our City, money matters still 
continue the same, very little in circulation, which joined to the 
high prices of every article of food, makes it hard on those who 
have but little income from their labor, the prospects are surely 
discouraging.  but still we should never dispair of the Divine 
Providence, who will ever be mindfull of those who trust in Him. 
Thursday 23 rd [superscript] The weather has been cloudy, and quite warm to day 
for the time of the year; business exceeding dull, the news from 
Europe shows that the War is assuming a fearful aspect, 
and will be attended with terrible bloodshed.  What the end 
will be no one can divine; it is harmfull to hear of such 
sacrifice of life, and such suffering, to satisfy the Whims 
and caprice of those in Power. 
Friday 24 th [superscript] Cloudy and rainy nearly all day, very little doing 
and very little to note, in our City. to night I went to prayer 
meeting at Bro Hallenbechs.  When though but few were present 
on account of the rain, we had still a good little meeting. 
Saturday 25 th [superscript] Another Cloudy and rainy day, the air is much 
colder this evening and there has been a good deal of snow through 
the day.  Though it has mostly melted as soon as it fell, business 
been dull for Saturday, and I hear of nothing of interest to note. 
almost every one complains of the hard times, scarcity of money, and 
the high prices of provisions.  but the Lord will be good to us all, if we 
will only trust in Him, I feel glad to enjoy another Sabbath sent. 
Sunday 25 th [superscript]  Cloudy and cold, and the ground covered with a light snow.  at 
9. I met my Class and had a good meeting, at 11 I heard D r [superscript] Seyer of Balti 
more (who is here on a visit to his Son's) preach amost excellant sermon on 
the Christians inheritance.  in the afternoon I met a few New Church friends 
at Father [illegible] where from the slim attendance we concluded to discontinue 
our meetings for the Winter.  at night I heard the D r [superscript and underlined] again on seeking religion 
after the sermon one young Woman came forward to the alter as a mourner.  & 
happened to be much comforted.  I have enjoyed a pleasant Sabbath.
