Description	The History of the American Revolution by David Ramsay, M.D. was acquired by the Western Library Association, or "Coonskin Library" in 1805. The second volume is 360 pages long and measures 10.5 by 9 inches (26.67 by 22.86 cm). The first 14 pages are included here. The Western Library Association was one of the first libraries established after Ohio became a state in 1803. Often referred to by its nickname "Coonskin Library" it was founded by the settlers of Ames Township in Athens County. As was common at the time, the library was financed by member subscription. Because money was scarce, members of the association were asked to provide five or ten raccoon pelts to be sold to pay for books. The library's books, covering such topics as religion, travel, biography, and history, were delivered to Ames Township on December 4, 1804. The cost of a share of stock in the library in 1804 was $2.50, a considerable sum for the time. The Western Library Association was disbanded in 1861.
