Description	Anthony W. Ross wrote these letters to his wife Sarah while he was serving in the Union Army at Lookout Valley Tennessee during the Civil War. He writes about camp life, an unusual March snowstorm, and news about other soldiers from Fayette County, Ohio. The letters are four pages each and measure 5" x 8" (12.7 x 20.32 cm). Anthony W. Ross of Good Hope, Ohio enlisted in Company G. of the 73rd OVI (Ohio Volunteer Infantry) on March 23, 1862. He was discharged when his term of service expired on March 24, 1865. His letters to his wife were written from Virginia, Georgia, and Tennessee. The 73rd OVI saw action at the second battle of Bull Run, where it lost 150 men, in August 1862. After a few months near Washington, D.C., the regiment fought in the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg, where another 143 men were killed. In the fall of 1863 they moved south to fight at Lookout Mountain and Mission Ridge before joining General William Tecumseh Sherman at the Battle of Atlanta and on the infamous March to the Sea.

Full Text	corresponds to page 1 of Ross Letters dated 1864 Mar13] Third Letter Lookout valley Tenn March 13th 1864 Dear Wife I take my pen in hand this bright Sunday morning to drop you a few lines to let you know that I am well and hope they may find you the same I got your welcome letter a friday and was verry glad to hear from you and to hear that you was well but I was scared when I Saw the envellope for I was certain Some of you was dead do not Send any more of them envelopes I am Sorry about Cashus swallowing a tack but it may not hurt him Well Emely we left Nashville left tuesday morning a week and got here a thursday morning being 48 hours running 148 miles since that time we have been buissy at work everry day untill yesterday at noon we are not at work to day although we worked all last sunday we have got a nice camp and I think
