Description	These print blocks were set by hand on a printing press to create the score for Dan Emmett's "Dixie's Land." One print block is engraved with the score for Dixie. The second block shows a portrait of Emmett, and the third block depicts a minstrel caricature. Daniel Decatur Emmett (1815-1904), a minstrel and musician from Mt. Vernon, Ohio, composed the song "Dixie's Land" in 1859. During the Civil War, "Dixie" was a marching song for Southern troops. After the war, Emmett made his living performing it and other songs on this violin. The print blocks measure between 2" x 3" (5.08 x 7.62 cm) and 4" x 6" (10.16 x 15.24 cm).
