An attempt was made last night to break Into the safe of Strong & Noble's bunking house. The outer case was cut away by the thieves, but they were unable to penetrate the walls of the money vault. About $30,000 was deposited In the safe at the time. Writ of Habeas Corpus. A writ of habeas eorpm has been granted by Chief Justice Draper directing the jailor of the county jail, at Essex, to bring Prank Reno and Charles Anderson, who were committed to Windsor jail for extradition, on the charge of shooting at Amerlcus Whcel-don with intent to kill, at Mansfield, Indiana. The discharge of the prisoners was sought on the ground that shooting with intent to kill does not come under the Ashbu-ton treaty. PENNSYLVANIA. The weather to-day was most unfavorable, a drenching rr.ln continuing to fall during the entire time allotted for the moving of the grand Republican procession, which, notwithstanding, probably exceeded anything ever before seen here, the column being nearly two hours passing a given point. Onr city presented quite a gala day In appearance, most of tho buildings being decorated with Hags, banners, mottoes, ifec. The business houses were generally closed, and the streets and sidewalks were thronged by thousands of spectators. The procession, after march ing tnrougn the entire route, disbanded. The speeches, which were to have been made on the Allegheney common, being postponed to a more propitious occasion. Mr. Stanton did not speak to-day, he will address the people to-morrow at 2 P. M. Washington, Sept. 24. In the Criminal Court this morning Judge Wylie discharged Surratt, under the statute of limitation, the indictment not having been found two years after the offense is alleged to have been committed. After the announcement of the decision by Judge Wylie, discharging Surratt, many friends congratulated him, and ho retired from the court room. The District Attorney filed an appeal from the decision of the Court. Adjourned. Cabinet Meeting;. The Evening Star says : We have every reason to believe that the cause of the protracted session of the Cabinet yesterday was a discussion whether there was a session of Congress on the 21st Inst. The question being that, if there wus a session all the appointments made during the recess had terminated and the offices were now vacant. In the Criminal Court this morning Judge Wylie discharged Surratt, under the statute of limitation, the indictment not having been found two years after the offense is alleged to have been committed. After the announcement of the decision by Judge Wylie, discharging Surratt, many friends congratulated him, and ho retired from the court room.
