General Taylor's KluoUon Whose in the Victory I The Lncofocus contend tli;il the election of Gener i' Taylor i not a Whig victory. This may be true. itrteiuer it is or nut, we presume (hat no one, ut tins day, tvill claim that success has been on the side of tin; Lncofocus If thi) Whigs have not been successful, they certainly have Dot been bcalen, as the Lucofocos have; and an they mostly voted for General Taylor, we are justified in the belicl thai, at Hie very Irani, they were willing thui he should be ch-clt'd. We are assured I lint the Whigs will tiolcl.iiin any more of the credit uf aiding in tin; election of General Taylor thin they art? entitled (o, and with great pleasure we approach tin inquiry : Whose it the victory? Tho victory belong to those who have wrought it, and to no one elm-! Il belongs to the vast and mighty PKOPLF, In-fore whose irresistible potency the sub-th'it snares have failed, and the most cunning plots have died powerless in the hand of the plotters. Falsehood, abuse, party combinations, and th most contemptible falsehoods all those tiling which hitherto hav been regarded as powerful engines to produce potiticitl results, have been but as the whirl of a few dead leaves in a solitary corner, compared with tin1 irresistible null of the tempest that strides through ami scatters the forest. The might of the people of thai (riant which frequently lumber when he should be awake, but who when amesed admits of no question as to his power, has curried the candidate of tho Philadelphia Convention high above alt the petty obstacles thi I have been thrown In 'fore him, and hits sustained, supported anil elected him and placed him triumphantly upon the highest and most sacred seat. .hut trim dipTrculrg siieh un truit' They whose frauds will now be exposed whose base designs will be frustrated, and who are in danger of being driven from that power which they have abused and front (hose offices which they have prostrated to the criminal design of forcing them to beget their own pirpetuity. fliey complain of grievous wrong llow Tney have before Ihetn the prosper! of being deprived of those hosts which from long incumbency Ihey have suppoitd themselves entitled by right. The liuuki-rs and hackneys of parly in whose hearts Loco-focoisiii has dne its perfect work, producing the bitter fruits of gt-lfuhucss and hypocrisy who cringe and bow to the people that they may steal the birthright The Columbus Whig Jubilee. Some people seem to ho disappointed that we have not given a more full description of the Whig Celebration which "came nlf" in Columbus on Thursday evening Whercfurc should we describe that scene of rejoicing? Was not en rijhody present, and participating? And how can language describe that of which an idea con only be obtained by actual seeing and hearing? It was a glorious season of miscellaneous rejoicing. A correspondent of I ho Springjicld Kcpublie writing hence on Thursday evening, says : " Noisk ami Com-us o?t ' reign here. If Gun. All enjoy the jubilee, and even the friends of the late Lewis (,'a.ss seem in enter into the sjimt of the lime, nml smile kindly upon their neighbors, who have prepared this entertainment for them, previous to their long and perilous voyage up Halt River." The truth is, no very definite arrangements were made, hut every one was free lo arrange his portion of the occasion to mil his own taste. The illumination was splendid the "noise" was great the "con fusion " wiisadiuiriblu A temporary sluicing was erected in front of the United States Hotel, from which some fashionable songs were sung by the Glee Club. Gen. J mi L. Gtir.tv, of Rot-, was called to Ihe stand, and responded to the call in an animated npeeeh ofiiboiit three quarters of an hour. Occasionally, during the speech, high over tho " noise ami confusion" which reigned in different parts of the town, eamo looming the shouts of the multitude surrounding the speaker's stand, showing that the orator had made a hit which lidd upon the popular car, and was responded to by the popular voice. This fad was inn do siill further apparent by the snarling of the Statesman jackuh, whose refined susceptibilities Were shocked by arrows of truth sped with unerring aim by tho speaker. In like manner, David L Rockmll is ceitified to have received I'M. voIch ; Daniel L. Rockwell lit voles, and D. R. Rockwell Voe;s. And these, loo, the Clerk severs, in his certificate. It is notorious that but one person of the name of Rockwell, and but one of the name of Sheldon were candidates;, ft is con. ceded that the votes returned as for Ihinitl L. This i not an much owing tu the brilliancy of Uu; editor's intellect ; indeed, as his friends tell us, not one of them cluims for him an ex ulled position in the intellectual scale. It arises from the unerring nature of his instincts ; for not with more certainly does the twig of hazel, transformed into a divining rod, turn towards the concealed water-course than docH the whole soul of this man, under the influ ence ol that intense selfishness which is nearly Ihe sole feature in his character, tend Inwards the point where lies his interest no mailer how ohucnrely lhat i nte rest maybe hidden no mutter how dirty tho corner in which it may be interred. And the people having done it, of course they are chargeable with the wrong done to these ollice holders by Hie divine rightof p'irsessioii of the spoils. If Gun. Cass were at this moment in the cajiitnl of Ohio, i much doubt if lie could be heard." lledl un has broken loose tu earnest and of all tho concords of sweet sounds that ever greeted human eur, (lie music of this hour hears the palm. 11 The (ruth is that about ten thousand people, are now on High street, and they are making I lie air ring Willi snouts to say nothing of the uoudretls ot tm horns with which the hoys have armed tin-mud vs. High street und Urnad street are brilliantly illuminated, mid rockets and lire-works increase the blaze. It'sa pity lliey should lake matters with an ill grace, when it is inevitable that Ihey are to be taken. Jtlillurd mtmorc. Hon Millard hllmore, the Vice President elect of tin!
