Oblong
Dover
the
1st
of
5th
mo
1815-
My
esteemed
and
Respected
friends
Thomas
and
Charity
Rotch
,
I
now
take
my
pen
in
hand
in
order
to
address
you
with a
few
lines
although
far
separated
from us and the
Quarterly
meeting
you
was
once
United
to as to the
Outward
yet
time
and
Distance
Doth
not
wear
out
that
feeling
fellowship
Zions
travelers
hath
for
Each
other
although
I
feel
myself
unworthy
of
being
ranked
among
them and
am
Ready
to
say
with the
Royal
phalmist
at
times
suerely
one
Day
I
shall
fall
as by the
hand
of
Saul
. But
let
us
my
friends
often
repair
to the
Divine
fountain
and
Rock
of
our
Salvation
which
hat
been the
preservation
of the
Righteous
from
age
to
age
Down
to the
present
day
as they have
keep
their
feet
grounded
there on
therefore
my
friends
there
is
some
degree
of
hope
for us to
Endevour
to
press
forward
with
fervent
Zeal
toward
the
mark
of the
prize
of the
high
calling
of
god
in
Christ
Jesus
our
Lord
.
It
hath
been a
trying
day
among
us
since
you
removed
from
within
the
verge
of this
Quarterly
meeting
as there
hath
been a
Number
of
our
Dear
friends
Removed
by
Death
in the
Various
parts
of
it
among
which
was
my
Beloved
wife
Sarah
who
Departed
this
life
the
13th
of
10th
mo
1812
.
I
was at that
time
very
Lame
and
helpless
myself
But
since
have been
Raised
up
to a
State
of
health
which
I
now
enjoy
for
which
favoured
&
humble
Desire
to be
ever
thankfull
.
It
is
also in
my
mind
to
inform
you
that
Barnabus
Howland
is
about
to
Remove
with his
family
into
your
Land
and as he
Lived
with
me
from
three
years
old
until
he had
three
of his
Children
and they have
now
four
which
he and his
wife
by their
industry
have
brought
up
so
far
decently
and have
perhaps
nought
[illegible]themselves
there
which
if they should
it
is
my
Desire
that
you
might
assist
them in
getting
somewhere
to
Live
so
that they
may
Support
themselves
which
I
having
Reason
to
Doubt
that
you
will
knowing
it
to be
heretofore
your
Engaged
minds
to be
assistant
to the
poor
for
whose
assistance
and
care
I
don’t
know
but
you
are
placed
where
you
now
live
. From
your
friend
Azariah
Howland
