Sir, Taunton February 6, 1804
Your favor of the 30th ult. I have received,
in answer say, that the Bricks can be had here at
twelve dollars per thousand - that is the price I have
had the year past & the boatmen will charge from tow
to two dollars & a half per thousand freight to New
Bedford - and if there should be vessels going from
this place to Hartford, as there sometimes do, they
will not charge much more to carry them there.
I know of no late improvement in the manufact=
ure of them - they are laid in mortar made of
the same materials - vix- some coarse sand,
clear of mould or fine sand, & vineyard clay, in
about equal parts-
I am Sir
Your Most Obedient
B.L. Williams
