Dear Brother Philadelphia 1 mo 27, 1814
I refer thee to my last of 22d Inst enclosing 20 post Notes of the Bank of Penns to thy order amount together $1300. On the 24 Instant I rec'd for thy Account from Michael Bull att at Hartford a Check one Merchants Bank New York for $2750. And being always desirous, not to hold Money which is not my own, longer that I can well avoid, I have again this day tried to get a check on the Bank of Steubenville to no purpose, I have procurred and inclosed herein 21 post Notes of the Bank Pennsa payable to thy order of this days date, at en days date viz.
18 Notes of 100 each No 2751 to 2763 inclusive $1300.
7 ditto 200 Each 2764 to 2770 ditto 1400
1 ditto 50 2771 50
Therby exactly to balla my Recept of 24 Inst as above for thy acct $2750
Of Receipt of this as well as of my said letter of 22d Instant it will in due season be acceptable to have thy advice as well information whether thy mode of remitting this is satisfactory & whether I am to pursue the same mode, in case any further or more monies should come to my hands for thy Account.
Thomas Rotch, thy Nephew, Son of our Brother W, Rotch haivng been in these parts, some weeks, sat off homewards on 24 Instant he frequently visited us & tho not a pattern of plainness & simplicity as would be cause of strength to the minds of his Connections, I believe he conducted himself in a steady & prudent manner during his stay in this City & seemed to enjoy the Company of my family, with a good degree of satisfaction.
Our Nephew W, Rodman is settled with his family, very near to his Broth W L Fisher, & appears to have remarkable steady attention to his business which I hope may contribute to his stability & religious improvement as the days are at hand, to try the foundations of the Members of our religious society, all of us in a remarkable manner & to prove who will resort to the fundamental principles for Shelter from the Storms, with which this Land extensively spread into so many Climes, seems to be surrounded from one end to the toher, my wife at this time while I am writing is afflicted with the Tooth Ache, tho begun, has been suspended from day to day & expect will go forward shortly.
