Dear Cousin Nantucket 12 mo 20, 1817
I rec'd thy two favors 10 mo 26 & 11 mo 2 several mails past Wm Macy has been absent from the Isalnd. I call'd on Hezeh Barnard and he informed me he would look over the account but has not yet handed it to me. The share thou holds in the Nantucket Marine Insurance Stocks lost the company. lost near 2/3 of their stock in time of war & have been trying to raise it by proffits on Insurance and hope to get it up to $50,000 soon. we petitioned the legislature to give us a charter for 50,000$ in sted of $100,000 but they did not grant it, the cause I do not know we shall thy it again this winter. I am in hopes they will grant it no divident had or can be made under the Present Standing of our Stock. I will attend to thy request at the Gazette office also shiped to NB and do the needfull there as directed
