Most Respected Friend,
The day after my return I made every enquiry among the candid past of Mr Shields's acquaintances respecting his candor and Learn'd to my satisfaction the follow particulars (viz) that he was rigidly honest and honorable in all his dealings - faithfull to his trust, and an excellent workman - but that he had commenced in the first rudiments of taht fatal vice (ie) intemperance so/ or as to have a "high" in some places of publick resort-but was steady about his business he said when he shifted his Company he would alter his woalk - and that he was determined to conduct in such a manner as to merit your confidence -he will be at your house a week from Saturday - I have not as yet found any shearers that would "I think" answer - There is application for about 200 sheep by safe people, and suitable farms-
With sentiments of esteem I am yours &c
