  Thos Rotch, 
                          Thou has no doubt heard of the situation of the Ship Commerce being detained by the French & recaptored by the [illegible] American Frigote, I have been [illegible] ever since I have been here to [illegible] some plan for an adjustment of [illegible] so as to make the greatest [illegible] to the concern possible, the agent had doubts untill last eveing whither he could settle with some of the concern & decided that he will leave to men chosen [illegible] to value the property & take an [illegible] of that valuation without going[illegible]tedious & expensive forms of [illegible] as will not come into the [illegible] must go to [illegible] libeled & sold so much [illegible] one eighth of the
