Thine of 3 mo 31 was recd in courier and early attention was given to putting up the many articles ordered there in. As thou have placed them in the care of Ambrose Chapman we have been daily expectations of seeing him but as so long a time has passed over without hearing from him we set out to search for him and find that he has been in Phildea & has returnd home without informing us of his arrival or departure. We have therefore sent the two small packages directed for thee to the care of Allen & Grant to the office of the Pittsburgh Company and have paid the freight to Pittsburgh.
I have made some enquiries of Abn & Andrew Miller who are engaged extensively in the Pottery business and being ingenious young men have made attempts to manufacture ware similar to the imported. but on trial have found tso little encouragement as to decline any further attempts, the great influx of imported ware & its low price have operated against them in a greater degree than would probably be the case if a distance from Sea ports.
