My tenderly beloved,
Wilt thou be surprized to recieve
a letter dated from this place where we reached last evening
after a very dusty ride and found this family in usual
health. as I have also been, since an ill turn at Lynn &
Salem. it was a short duration, our frd Hugh is likewise
well and expects to go pretty direct to Vassalborough taking
Durham in the way & then return to Dover & Amsbury
from thence out to Ware & back to Salem & perhaps to
Bedford & so into RP Quarter, from present prospects
I cannot tell whether I shall return after the Mo Meetg
at this place next fourth day or 23d, untill I recieve letters
from thee, my endeared Companion, who hath been almo
st the constant concern of my mind with secret solici
=tude for thy close attention to the manifestations of the
Captain of Our Souls Salvation, prefering to serve & obey
him above every other Object (which I know is at times
thy fervent engagement of Spirit), whereby thou wilt
be made strong & the feet of thy mind more abundantly shod
with the preparation of the Gospel of Peace, may thou
endeavour to lift up thy head, from that too great state of
depression that has long hung about thee & altho the reason
therefore may have appeard almost insurmoundable, may thou
look beyond not only that state whereunto the Gospel was a
stumbling block & foolishness, but also that, that hath more the
