My dear Mother
Since I wrote thee last many things have conspired to occupy my attention exclusive of the pen but during this interval I have not been unmindful of my absent friends. The increasing illness for some weeks before, and final close of our dear Sister Lewis on the 3d day of this month, clained in a particular manner the attention of all her Brothers & Sisters - we collected at her house day after day & had the comfortable evidence that her afflictions had wrought for her "a far more exceeding & eternal weight of glory." Many were the striking testimonies she bore to the goodness, mercy and long sufferg of him who she said had followed her all her life long; ardnely desiring that we whose time was lengthened longer and particularly the younger branches of the family, might be more faithful than she had been, entreating that there might be more attention to plainness of Dress, furniture etc Our endeared friends D Darby & R Young had several remarkably favour'd opportunites in her chanmber and with divers worthies in this City seem'd to have a clear evidence that her "calling and election was made sure & a place of rest & peace prepared for her. it has been a time of renewed visitation ot the members of our Monthly meeting and our
