Union School - G-18-23
[page 1] 4
On the 17th day of November AD
1862 a majority of the Board of Edu-
cation,ordered T.W. Harvey Princip
al of the School, to dismiss all the
colored children, this order was
given on the belief of its being
for the best interests of the School
under the circumstances existing
at the time, and was, as we
beleived, in accordance with exis
ting statutes, and the wishes of a
large majority of our people, but
it was expressly stipulated, and reser
ved for the action of the people of this
district, that the money hereafter rece
-ived from the enumeration of Colerd Youth
in the district, and from taxes on real
and personal property of that class within
the district, should be reserved for the
use & purposes of educating said Colored
children, in case a seperate School
should be provided for them in the
district or township~ and in the
event the action of the Board is
Sanctioned, we recommend that you
pass a Resolution to that affect, &
also for the setting apart, the funds
we have refered to.
