   The Testimony of York Monthly Meeting concerning our Friend Esther Tuke
  who departed this life the 13th of 12 mo 1794, and was buried in Friends burying
  Ground in that City the 17th of the same.  aged about 67 years, a Minister about
  thirty three years.
  
    This our beloved friend was the daughter of Timothy & Ann Maud. She 
  was born at Westcoals near Halifax in the year 1727, from whence her Parents after
  wards removed into the neighbourhood of Bingley, where her father died when she
  was about 25 years of age.
    In the early part of life, she was captivated with some of the follies and
  vanities to which Youth are peculiarly liable, but the loss of her Father with a con-
  currence of many other trying circumstances, tended to humble her mind,and to prepare
  her for the reception of that divine visitation which was about this time powerfully
  extended to her, and under which she submitted, became willing to bear the Cross and
  despised the Shame, and made the wise and religious choice of suffering affliction
  with the People of God rather than enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season.
      Great was her conflict and many the exercises she experienced in this
  dispensation, and which might be compared to the day of Jacob's troubles, where in
  she was engaged to enter into the solemn covenant with him who had thus visited her
  and abiding under the humbling operations of his holy hand, she became prepared
  as a Vessel meet and sanctified for the Master's use.
      Although in this part of her life she was situated very distant from
  her own particular and monthly meetings, yet she was diligent in the attendance
  of both, and soon appeared to be gifted for the Discipline of the Church in which
  she was very serviceable within that Monthly Meeting.
