E-2-4
Newport October 29th 1787
We the Subscribers being appointed a committee to review
a highway formally laid out from the school land called New Town
through Mr. Oliver Warners land, the Gallows field, and Geo. Gibb s
land, into Malbones lane, and to consider where the same may be
better, and to most advantage laid out, and to Council with the propri
=etors of the lands upon the terms, upon which the lands pur=
chased by the town; Agreeable to said appointment we having
met on said business, find that said highway may be better laid
out, and much more convenient to run a straight line from the
House of Mess.Cazzens, through the new town the land and through
Captn Warners land, and then though the Gallows field and from
thence, though the land of the late Robert Lillibridge Esqr. deceas d, and
from thence through the Widow Rodmans land, and from thence
through William Cornels land, into the lane leading to Malbone s
Farm; And we have also Consulted the Proprietors of said lands,
and report as follows Viz. Captn Warner makes the town a
Present of his land, the late Robert Lillibridges land is to be ex=
changed, foot for foot out of the Gallows Field and the Widow
Rodman s land the same, and the same piece taken from
William Cornels land can be paid for from the Money arising
from the sale of a strip of land lying useless adjoining to Colp
John Topham and William Tripp s land; and there will be a sur=
pulsage of Money which pay all the expenses of laying out said
Road, And Money we suppose will be left to go into the Treasury.
