Place	Massillon (Ohio); Stark County (Ohio)
Description	In this letter to his son, Arvine Wales comments on local weather, his crops, the shortage of money and Thomas Rotch's barometer that he is packing to be sent away for repairs. He condemns the impending war with Mexico, stating that the United States has been the aggressor in the war. He wrote, "Should England side with Mexico our government may find it much easier getting into troubvle than to get it if 3/4 of our Congress were sent to the Rio grand instead of poor Soldiers, & carry their musket a mere $8 per month instead of $8 per day, it would no doubt be a rendering a great service to our country for I do not believe there is a more depraved set of men to be met with than a large no. of our Congressmen." 7.8" x 9.9" (19.9 by 25.1 cm)
