Dr Sir
Your favor of Yesterday is
received and contents noted.
I return the resignation with my
name attached.
I am too busy to write much, but
cannot permit the opportunity to pass
without saying that I have ever felt, and
do yet feel a deep and earnest interest
in the welfare of the Charity school. But
I have long felt that from my inability
to give any attention to its affairs it
was improper for me to hold the post
of one of its trustees. The cause of edu-
cation is of too much importance to be
neglected by those in whose hands it is
placed. And especially is this the
fact when the interests of that class
of community which makes up the pu-
pils of this school are involved. The fund
dedicated to their education is a sacred
one, and the duty of properly managing
it involves far high moral obligations
