Rachel Todd letter to Charity Rotch, Farmington, April 24, 1809

	               Farmington  April 24th  1809
	   Dear Charity
	      expecting an opportunity this after=
noon, by our mutual friend Doctor Wells, thought I would
just inform you, that  the probability of my getting in to
Hartford this week, is less, than when I saw you, having
had one or two ill turns which has debilitated me a
little, & caused me(perhaps) to be over careful of my=
self, & altho  I am able to walk, & ride out- yet I shall
hardly dare venture so far from home, least some of
my friends should have the trouble of nursing me be=
for I could return to resign ones self up as good for noth=
ing, seems hard- however I see nothing but I must be
reconciled, to live without much work, & devote all the
pleasant days to riding, at least, for a time 
	I was attacked, the evening you left us, with severe
pains in the Bowels, which continued till 2 oclk, after that
I rested tolerably well, & was comfortable & about house
every where, the following day, but have had less strength
than before- this morning again I awoke with pain in
my head, & sickness at the stomach, accompanied with
faintness- but after having through off the contents of the
stomach, pretty thoroughly, was reliev d, & am quite com=
fortable again, this afternoon I hope my dear friends will
feel no anxiety on my account- I wish every one, was as well
off as myself, as it respects their health- poor Linns Norths
 wife, & Clarisa, are extremely sick, I very much fear we
shall lose them both- the others who are sick, seem to be
mending- how is it with thee, I have felt a considerable
degree of solicitude on thy account, do let us hear soon- &
please to remember, that whenever it is convenient, a visit
from you, will be, most gratefully received, by your ever
