The affectionate & sympatheic salutation of our valued friend
Charity Rotch was very acceptable to her friend Jane Shoemaker
Of late I have been abundantly convinced of the power of sympathy
thine being the third letter of that kind which I have received quite
unexpected since my John left home To be remembered by ones
friends with kindness is always gratfull but more particularly
so in the absence of a beloved husband for whom I have felt
much more anxious than I ever did before apprehending
vastly more danger than he had ever encountered on any other
occasions. That Lake on which Charity & Thomas Rotch were
in danger has again & again assailed my mind with ground=
less fears. As I am convinced this evening by a letter just now
received partly written at Chippeway Upper Canada & the latter
part Canandaigua date 10th mo. 30th. In which he mentions they
have got along in the enjoyment of good health & without any
material accidents. He mentions his own resignation to his present
allotment saying I believe it is the cause of my blessed Lord
& Master that has lead me from home & of which I may
humblingly acknowledge I have been favored with a confirmation
of & such an evidence of peace has been experienced as to far
