I devote the first leisure moment to write to
thee my beloved Charity, and wish it were in the power
of my pen to convey the feelings of my heart towards
thyself & dear husband for all the tender care & soli-
citude express d for my welfare ~ I have often
cause to number your friendly regard as among
the blessings of my life for which I am & trust
ever shall be grateful to the searcher of hearts
who answered the wish of mine in bestowing on
me the favour of your acquaintance, previous to which
I had felt a nearness I cannot describe, & my secret
cogitations were, could I but enjoy the company
& advice of such a feeling and nursing Father &
Mother as I believe and have found you to be
I should certainly find the way made easier,
to
after which tho, your noticing me in so peculiar
a manner was cause of humble admiration
& gratitude to the all wise disposer, who I have to
acknowledge has not delt with me according to my
merits, but that of his loving kindness.
