In closing my letter last evening by frd Knapp(I don t know his first name)
I forgot that I intended to have mention d, perceiving yesterday at
Lynn that J Leonard(who lives not very far from Taunton & is engag d
in Iron works) was enquiring how to direct a letter to my Brother
TR a little anxiety was awaken d lest he shoud be contemplating
even
the establishment of one of his sons in your neighborhood & from^ the
little knowledge we have of them we coud conclude it woud
not be a desirable addition- The Father stands as one of our
fraternity & how far he is clear of aiding one of them in carry-
the
ing on a branch of^ business with wh we cannot unite. I am
unable to determine- you may easily suppose what branch
it is without my entering further into it- I only wish d for
my Brother to have a hint from here that you woud not
be likely to gain anything very pleasant, even by a very
considerable purchase of land at a good price & ready cash.
you will excuse my claiming your attention on the subject
& believe me as usual tenderly interested in you prosperity.
LD
PS we have obtain d no direct information respecting my Brother s
loss at Milford haven but conclude it is the unfinish d
house which was erected several years since, & was
probably burnt by accident- the last letters from
there were written precious to the accident- but
the report has been confirm d by a paragraph in
an English paper.
