Dear Charity
Thy favour received some time
since, hath lid long unanswered owning to a variety
of circumstances but the principal cause
hath been the sickness & removal of my dear
Mother who claimed my attention - & although , I
was but a little while with her it seemed for
a [illegible] time to disqualify me for writing
- from experience, than can feel a sympathy
with us on the occasion having been with
my dear Mother in her last moments --& so was
I, with mine, dear Charity she was sick only
one week a letter was sent me soon after she
was taken but it did not get to hand - & next
a messenger rode all night informing me
that she failed fast - & could not continue long
her
--we hastened down immediately we found^ so
reduced in strength as to be scarce able to
speak was perfectly sensible & composed only
gave us her hand - & looked at us she had
for several days & nights been exceedingly distressed
with almost continual coughing expressed
several times to Sister Ruth who had been with
her most of the time - that she wanted to be
released that she was quite ready & had
given up all here - which I believe was
her happy situation -- & although trying to na-
=ture to part with dear Relatives especially
a tender Mother yet believing that our loss
is her gain, I quietly submit - she lived only
two days after we got there seemed to take
no notice of anything around her, but quietly
