                                   Muddy Creek 1st month 7th 1818
                       As I was silently musing this evening my
  dear friends Thomas & Charity Rotch were sweetly brought to my
  remembrance, and while my friends are enjoying themselves in
  conversation, I have presumed to conserve through the medium of 
  writing with you who are absent in body but are often very
  often(I Hope)present in spirit and particularly so this eventing.
      I think your kind attention to us when our lots were cast amongst
  you has seal'd impressions that will never be erased. in recurring to
  that time the query often arises "What shall we render" etc And my desires
  are that my dear friends may, or has been rewarded for your affec=
  -tionate regard to us weary pilgrims who were strangers and in a
  strange land; But when beneath your hospitable roof were favoured
  to feel ourselves at home. how consoling to the weary traveller
  to meet with a "brook by the way." 
                                       I think T French gave an accou-
