Esteemed Friend
Thomas Roche
Tho' we have no acquaintance, yet as my Neighbours Elisha Wm Hoag
and Lydia his wife with their three Children departed from [illegible]
intending to go to Kendal in Ohio. I feel disposed to [illegible]
as they depend on thy friendly aid in procuring a House [illegible]
can find a permanent home. They have been my near Neighbours during
the whole of the last seven Years, and it is some trial to me as well as more of
the Inhabitants here, to part with them; but as their property is not sufficient
to procure for them as comfortable farm, in this County; and as they have a
sufficiency to pay for and assist in improving a quarter Section of the state
land; and as we believe they can procure, of such, [illegible] is fertile and
we dare not them
which will, eer long, be in a settlement of Friends^him freely
about a place of Settlement etc. They will need the advice [illegible] of somebody
as they will be entire Strangers amongst you. I am [illegible] Lydia's
Parents, who are in the station of Elders in the State of [illegible] are very
discreet, reputable and useful Members of Society -[illegible]
knew. They settled all their affairs to satisfaction and part[illegible] most affec=
=tionate good will. Excuse this freedom of the[illegible] Friend
Daniel Stroud
P S My wife unites in Love to [illegible] & Lydia- Please to tell them that several of their friends they would have come to see them set out on their Journey, but that they thought it could be of no real benefit, and would cause more pain on both sides.
