7th Day Evening
Dear Friends
R & C Rotch
Some considerable time, having elapsed
since I last wrote you it becomes necessary to give some
accounting of myself, and could I do it without
awakening in your minds those sympathetic feelings
of tenderness & regard which I will know you possess for
me (and I often think undeservedly) it would afford a
a degree of satisfaction, but alas, the contrary is the case
as some part of my narrative will evince, soon, after my
last date to you I left home to attend the Quarterly
Meeting which was a remarkably favor'd one having the
Company of Susanne Horn from England, T Scattergood, whose
companion was dear Wm Wharton whom I met verry unex-
pectedly, with many more valuable Frds. I went next
day to Poughkeepsie to see my Brother John & Settle some
and
little affairs beside^[illegible] JOhn was gone to N York and
expected back shortly I went back the same Evening to
Mark Coffins and next day attended the Q Meeting at
Stanford returnd in the evening again to Marks I was very
cordially entertained by them, Judith is a lovely woman
she
I thought, ^desired me to mention when I wrote again to
you that she missed you more than she could express-
I returned next day to Poughkeepsie found John had not
returned and being unwilling to wait any longer for him sett
off for Troy & Hudson wishing to procure some of those
excelent Herds at the later place.
