                   Cincinnati 10th mo 26 1819
  Esteemed Friend
                  I reached home on the 2nd instant
  and found my family in good health: I proceeded no
  further Eastward than the neighbourhood of Brownsville
  I felt most easy to return home, rather than go on to
  Balt. and Washington at that time. although Philip E
  Thomas, in a letter directed to me at Brownsville rather
  encouraged me to come as far as Washington & see
  the Secretary of War myself on the subject of the
 Agency at Sandusky, and enclosed me the Secretary's
  reply to a communication sent him by friends of Balt.

       Sir,
              The letter from yourself and Mr Hopkins on the
      part of the Committee of the Society of Friends of Balt.
      recommendatory of Mr.Shaw has been received.
               The Department is of the opinion that the Act
      of Congress does not authorize the appointment of an
      Agent at Sandusky, in addition to the two Agents
      at Fort Wayne and at Piqua; and is disposed
      to assign the duties at Sandusky to Mr. Johnston
      the Agent at Piqua.

  -pence in which I was kept relative to the appointment which
  I had been expecting, he told me that he had been in compa-
