A Gentleman by accident communicated to me
(at this Counting Room) something I conceived interesting to
thee if in the pursuit of establishing a manufactory of fine
Staffordshire Ware or China. Respecting his Knowledge &
access to the spot where the fine material of which they
are chiefly composed is abundant. - he says it lies between
(I think) the 34th & 38th degree of North Latitude.
I enclose a specimen thereof which he told me
(being a ciderant post master) would go free if under
half an ounce. I think it a great discovery, this with
Silax I suppose would make the most beautiful of ware
in the State of Ohio
I told him a friend of mine,had a prospect of being, or was
concerned, in that business & that I would transmit any
information from him on that subject. he therefore put
down in writing at [illegible] side what he had to com-
municate which I thought would be no harm, accompa-
nied with my best respects, to forward.
Since thy last I rec'd a Letter from Louisa who is very
much inclined to renounce the journey to America and
wishes me to return - she says she was fortunate in
getting a cheaper & better House than she had and
also that she has a good school. This has frustrated
as to the
me exceedingly and clouds my views^future
but I have written her again & advised her should
she be wholly averse to coming out whether I had not
better stay here & save 'till I could return with a
