Dear Brother Newport 6 mo 16. 1801
Since I wrote thee last have
heard nothing more recent from Capn
Barney by a letter from the Mate of
the Oneeda (Stephen West Son of Charles) we
find Barney lost his Mate & two men not
named - considering his being left in
Company with 3 other Ships who might give
an Acct should any accident befal him
as early as he might be look'd for. I thought
best to order $20,000 insur'd at Boston at
6 pr Cts on Cargo & my father answered for
Thee that thy portion of that sum, is on
thy acct if she arrives or is lost before thou
gives thy Answer to which please inform
me as soon as possible - I have a letter from
S Dorr who did Barneys business by which
I find the nt Sales in Canton were $33,000
& Sugar
laid out in Teas& she has 76 Tons on freight
at $100 pr Ton. this with the money sent $4,500
