My dear Son Thomas
My last to thee was the 18th ult. care of Caleb Gardn'r.
via Newbury Port, in which if I remember right I direct'd thee to draw
on Debaques for One Thousand ponds Sterg. when thou could apply
it
^to advantage, & the exchange was favourable, since which I find by
Samuel he had pd. thee or provided L500-Im. or thereabouts; therefore
I now wish thee to reduce thy draft to Six hundred - altho the L500
is not thy share of profit, yet is more that thy proportion of what
remained unappropriat'd; the remaining proffits being added to the
Stocks, thou will have thy portion of this appropriation in the advan=
=tage that may arrive, the L600 stg. being on acct. of the Stocks I pro=
=pos'd furnishing thee with- Wm. has advis'd me of the manner you have
divided the money paid by Fleming, which it quite agreeable to me. I
believe I mention'd to thee that I desir'd Homberg not to ship Wm
and thee the Goods you order'd on acct. of the money- you had in their hands,
having a prospect then of investing the whole into head Matter, expecting
the preference of L Coffin, (who we find arriv'd at Bedford & perhaps it
may fall into yr. hands there) and another of W. Hoyland ships which
has not yet arriv'd, waiting for these vessells we have kept the Mary,
untill now---you will have by her a Small Stock whc. if she arrives
safe hope with what you may purchase in America may furnish
whc.was
you a tolerable quant'y; the rem'r of yr. money,^ in Hombergs hands,
I have long since inform'd Wm. was lodg'd in Dickason & Co. hands in London.
for your appropriation. I can give thee nothing pleasing in
our present situation, except being favour'd with health, which is
truly one of the choicest Blessings of this life for its continuation, I
