Dear Sir,
The Copy of your letter to Cyrus
Coffin dated Hartford 9th mo is now before me, on which
you speak extreemly favorable of the State of Ohio as
repsects its Soil Climate Population etc and that you
consider it a fit place for people to remove to from this
Island, - but you had not fixed on any place where you
was certain of making a stand, - I have for some time
passed had an inclination to remove from this to the
Continent, but have never been able to fix on a place
that appeared likely to answer my purpose, I have been
too long accustomed to the sea to make a good farmer, but
I have four sons whom I should wish to learn something
better than following the Sea for a living; and your
speaking of manufacturing establishments induces
me to think that should such a measure appear pros=
perous, it would be a good plan for me to remove my
family, which consists of a weakly wife, one Son 19 1/2
years of age, one 11 1/2, one 9 1/2, and one 19 moths; and all
healthy Boys - I will tank you to drop me a line,
and say what land is pr acre to (which good titles can
be given), how far you are from a United States Loan
office; (my money what little I have being in the farm
