Esteemed friend
Thomas Rotch
Ere this reaches thee thou wilt
have heard of the trying dispensation we have ex=
perienced in the removal of our beloved father, the
particulars of whose illness etc I have written to uncle
Mayhew, --Thy letter, also one from uncle M. were
recd three days after his death, & agreeably to thy request
I made inquiry respecting Treasury Notes, they were then
15 prC below par, but at present there are none in market
in consequence of the pleasant intelligence of the Ghent
commissions having concluded a treaty of Peace, which
it is said is ratified by our Presidnet, that I apprehend
governments Bills will be at par, should they be below
I shall inform thee, - Our father had always anticipa=
ted with pleasure, the time when he should be able
to close his concerns in this city, & move to Kendal, but
how short sighted we are, in how short a time are all
our
^ plans frustrated, a letter from thee would be partic-
ularly acceptable at this time. - I have administered
upon my father's estate, & have annexed a copy of thy Acct.
from his books, & shall be much obliged to thee to forward
thine, as it is very desireable to settle the estate without delay.
I have taken the store lately occupied by him, & intend
continuing in the same business, any commands thou
mayst have in this city will be gladly recd, & duly attended to
by thy Assured friend
