Dear Friend
It would have given me great pleasure
could I have paid you a visit at
the time I worte you, from Mansfield
But I entered the State by the stasges and
purchased a horse at Zanesville and
wished to see a little more of the
interior of Ohio I found myself shortened
for time as my calculations were to meet
the steam boat at Sandusky bay on the
25 June which I accordingly did-
Should I take a tour westward next
Season I intend passing through your
place as I find I can more easily do so
than go by Zanesville - I was much
gratified by the tour I took and am
convinced that the northern section
of Ohio contains as good land and
as good Climate as any whatever-
The settlements have been very rapid
and I hope the present stagnation of
business will not impeed them.
There are many conveniences to be en-
joyed at and near the Lakes which
cannot be experienced more to the south
then together witth difference of Climate
under the northern parts of Ohio much
the most preferable - With best
rejoices for Mrs Rotch I am etc
