Dr Sir
I sent to one friend W Dean at Salem
some Persian wheat to be accompanied to you
by friend [illegible] - Unfortunately W Dean
was on a journey and I have not heard
whether the rye has been forwarded to you.
Much regret that it was not equal to the
sample I enclosed - having been injured by
milldew - it may answer for seed and I in
tend to try it again another season- The
misfortune was its having been sown too
late - My wheat sown at the same time
was also milldewed - consequently I can not
say I have had a fair experiment and
must reserve my opinion for another
season- your letter of the 14th 7 mo I
duly recd - since which I have not heard
from you - My friend Duncan I wish
would write me - How are your Crops
this season? Ours are good and
Indian corn much better than expected
and potatoes are in abundance I wish I
may have an opportunity of sending you
some of my best - Plaister I find to be
an excellent manure but your new lands
are too rich to require anything of the kind.
